New Fire Effect

Here is another fire effect test using particle sprites in maya using a simple image sequence.

FXwars

This is my work on the FXwars light house challenge for CGSociety

Macrograph’s crowd simulator

Macrograph’s crowd simulation system (abbreviated as ‘MCSS’ from now on) is a complete S/W solution to creating crowd animation including motion capture data processing, particle simulation and automatic motion mapping with full body inverse kinematics.

Look like this crowd simulation plugin could be fun to play with.  Link

WIP Bubble effect

I want to see if I could get a look of bubbles floating to the surface with Maya Particles.  I emitted partices form an object controling the emitters rate base on the direction of the ball. I then used a locator to control the particles lifespan based on it’s Y location.  This alowed me to get the effect that when the particles reached the surface they dissapear.  I then made the particles emitting for the ball emit new smaller particles.  Made the particles blobbies and created a random size expression for all the particle emitted.  I have to thank effects artist John David Thornton, becuase I created this effect based on his papers.

Maya Fluid Effect

This is an project I did two month ago.  I wanted to create a WW II carpet bomb animation of Berlin from the perspective of the airplane. I used Maya’s 3D fluids to create the clouds and the explosions.  Then composite in After Effects to add a washed out look like you see in movies.

WIP of Blender Fluid Simulation

WIP of a Blender Fluid Simulation using collisions obsticles.  The model of the subway entrence was built using  Maya.  Then imported to blender where the fluid physics were applied to the model. I found that modeling in Maya for the perpuse of exporting into blender the formate that  workered best was .dxf (Drawing Exchange Format).  Also because blender calculates in meters I set Maya’s grid to meters as well when I modeled the steps.

VFX.TV

vfx.TV is a great website that has video tutorials,Interviews with some of the worlds leading artist on vfx and motion graphics, and 3D animation from around the globe.

Update the site is down if It comes online again I will post it here

WIP of Castle storm shot

This is a WIP of an effect I’m working on of an approaching storm toward a cliff side castle.

Simple sprite

Sprite Fire from Jack on Vimeo.
This is a really easy sprite fire anyone can do.  To create the sprite image sequence all you need to do is render a 2D fluid explostion.  Create you sprite particle and connect the image sequence to the sprites. Add a simple per particle expression something like spritePP=frame-frame, and your done.

Shock Wave Test

This was one of the test I did for the ara project, you can veiw the final video here
